A microscopic virus has shut down societies and economies worldwide.  Mother Nature gave us all a timeout for our global civilization’s greedy behavior.  Survival is the first step, as we try to stay alive, healthy and fed.  Thriving is the next goal. 

This lockdown encourages us transform ourselves individually and collectively.  Most of us are staying home 24/7, maybe an hour outside.  Prisoners have the choice whether to reform and rehabilitate themselves, or not.  We have the same choice to make, and some won’t want to learn and grow.  But many of us are embracing this opportunity to improve ourselves, to be free from our physical and mental prisons, to move forward towards a positive future. 

Since we are stuck at home, people are doing some form of Spring Cleaning.  It’s a traditional time of year to clear out the old to make way for the new, a rebirth of life.  Key is cleaning out the old mindfully.  Does the item bring you joy?  Have you used it in recent years?  Keep, trash, recycle or donate?

Relationships are changing with the lockdown.  Some families and partners are getting closer.  I predict there will be a New Year’s Baby Boom!  Others can’t wait to get away from each other, reports of domestic violence are up, and the divorce rate in China increased.   

Both the literal cobwebs and the figurative ones need to be cleared out.  This is the time for introspection, meditation and prayer.  Time to open up our baggage and look through the past, which can’t be changed but can be understood better.  Time to let go of unneeded or unwanted memories, emotions or habits that have been holding us back, so that we can move ahead.  It’s time to lighten the load that we are carrying, and to release the blocks to reaching our goals. 

There are many ways to meditate and pray.  Do what feels best.  I’m still learning how to meditate and live mindfully.  I am practicing being aware, and breathing to quiet my “monkey brain” from chattering.  Mindfulness is recommended for stress relief, good health and happiness.

Mindful living and meditation is as old as the Buddha, while attracting positive results through prayer is as old as the Bible.  Praying has been practiced by every faith.  Connecting with your subconscious and with the Universe are both crucial.  Everyone and everything is made of vibrating quantum energy, and we are also cosmically connected.  Everything is mass times the speed of light squared.

As we make progress individually, we also need to make progress collectively.  Our current civilization is on life support from this pandemic.  The Doomsday Clock is closest ever to Midnight because there are thousands of nuclear weapons ready to launch, and our climate is rapidly warming.  We must transform ourselves and our global civilization to become sustainable, so that our children and grandchildren can safely survive this century, and even thrive.

    Well said Robert! There are many ways to keep our sanity and hope for a better world. I have learned that anxiety blocks creative thought, and meditation relieves anxiety. We are all in this together!

    Yes!! As horrible as this pandemic seems, I believe it is definitely a much needed slap on the wrist and wake up call to us. I also believe it was a necessary step the universe and Mother Earth had to bring about to reestablish a sense of balance and harmony to our planet. I don’t mean to sound as if it is a good thing that people are dying, but I always look to find the good in things and the seeing the pollution clear from our skies and start to heal our ozone layer is just amazing!
